Two Detentions Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

Two more people have been arrested related to a theft at London's Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to police.

A 24-year-old man, was arrested in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, authorities confirmed.

The arrests follow a probe into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, two women had stolen from them their suitcases upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the those hurt in the event. Five people went to hospital for medical care and have since been discharged.

Police arrested a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault near the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at approximately 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals injured by a noxious substance believed to be an irritant spray.

The assault - an event that police said was isolated and not considered an act of terror - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
