The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
