England to Begin UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the anticipated passage for a championship staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions match since May 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is highly likely to host the national team for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their last-16 tie would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s ground.
Competition Launch and Demonstration
The tournament was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were barracked as they approached the location by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Signs were raised with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Fixture List
The first match of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.
Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help reach a broader range of fans.
Host Nations
The Republic of Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Venues and Knockout Stage
The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground complete the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at every host’s main arena.
The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a competition for the followers and a showcase of everything we cherish about the football – its fervor and power to bring people together.”
In excess of three million admissions, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be offered to fans.
