Administration Faced Allegations of Assault on Free Speech After UK Reporter Held

A leading Islamic civil rights organization has accused the present administration of a clear insult to free speech” following national immigration authorities held UK reporter Sami Hamdi on Sunday.

The organization stated that Hamdi was taken into custody at San Francisco International airport facility because of criticizing Israel’s ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip. The journalist is among a number of individuals who have been arrested and removed by federal agents for voicing pro-Palestine views.

DHS officials said that Hamdi’s travel visa had been terminated, and that he was in detention “awaiting deportation.”

Immigration Authorities Holds UK Reporter Following Criticism of Israel

UK reporter Sami Hamdi was reportedly taken into custody on Sunday morning by ICE agents at San Francisco international airport, and the civil rights group says that action is apparent retaliation for the Islamic political commentator’s comments of Israeli actions while touring the US.

An announcement from the organization labeled it was “a blatant affront to free speech” to detain Hamdi for criticizing the Israeli current military campaign in Gaza while he was involved on a speaking tour. An administration official added in a different statement that Hamdi is slated for removal.
