A Number of Injured as Turbulence Hits A Delta Airlines Aircraft Arriving in Sydney, Australia

Several people were hurt following a Delta jet traveling from LA to Sydney experienced rough air Friday morning.

Flight DL41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at the Sydney airport, a representative for the carrier stated. Four flight attendants required medical attention.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated a total of five people, and took a trio to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that comprised spinal discomfort and head pain. Those affected ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.

This marks the most recent case of planes being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers saying that climate change is a significant contributor.

On board were 245 passengers and 15 crew members on the wide-body jet, the Delta spokesperson said, stating that the plane landed "safely and normally" at Sydney Airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.

The NSW Ambulance Service indicated they got a call just three minutes before the plane landed, and ambulances were waiting on the tarmac.
